Solutions Engineer
Job Description
About Column
For companies building financial technology and transforming the financial services space, the biggest bottleneck to their growth and innovation is often the underlying banks and infrastructure stack they rely on. We have spent our careers founding and scaling companies like Plaid, Square, SoFi, Blend, and Affirm, and have seen this problem firsthand — builders and developers needing to partner with traditional banks, and creating API and abstraction layers over the patchwork that is the bank, its core, and many other vendors. All of this results in a complex (and often expensive) banking supply chain involving a user, fintech, BaaS middleware provider, bank, core and the Federal Reserve.
At Column, we set out to simplify and fix this. We are a bank and a software company built from the ground up, offering builders and developers technology-forward banking solutions that cut out the hundreds of vendors, middleware providers, and abstraction layers. This means a safer, more transparent, and less costly banking supply chain. Come build with us!
Role overview
This isn’t your typical Solutions Engineering role. We aren’t confined to pre-sales, post sales implementation, and we do not give demos to uninterested clients in meetings set up by BDRs trying to meet their booked meeting quota. At Column, Solutions Engineers use their unique skill set and product expertise to own cross functional projects spanning engineering, business, operations, finance, and compliance. You will work with the most sophisticated companies in the financial technology industry, educating them on our technology, designing bespoke solutions with our APIs and data model, and ultimately supporting these companies to implement our solutions and drive payment volume through Column. At Column, we have no product managers. As an expert on our customers and our technology, you will gather and synthesize product feedback, identify gaps, write product requirement documents, and work with our founder and engineering team on prioritizing new features into our roadmap, while managing expectations with our customers. You will be much more technical than the average Solutions Engineer. It’s not enough to only understand how our technology works. You will identify operational bottlenecks and build internal tooling to help the company work more efficiently. You will be able to contribute to our core codebase when necessary. If you want to elevate what it means to be a Solutions Engineer and ready for a huge challenge, this role may be right for you. This role will work alongside our team in our Presidio-based office and reports to the Head of Solution Engineering.

- Responsible for identifying, assessing, and managing the risk associated with their activities by adhering to policies and procedures established by the Bank, and reporting issues identified to management.
