Business Development Representative at Penfold
Job Description
Introduction
Hi, we’re Penfold - we’re building the pension of the future! 🚀
At Penfold, we’re dragging pensions out of the dark ages with a modern, tech-first platform that makes pensions engaging, accessible, and rewarding.
We’re a growing team of 50+ builders across London and Tallinn, backed by top FinTech investors. We’ve raised £20M+, manage £600M+ in pensions for over 80,000 savers and thousands of businesses, and are on track for profitability next year.
As one of our first 50 hires, you’ll help shape our culture and enjoy significant progression opportunities.
The Role
As a BDR at Penfold, you’ll drive our growth by connecting with potential business clients and generating qualified opportunities. Whether it’s picking up the phone, sending a compelling email, or striking up conversations on LinkedIn, you’ll play a pivotal role in expanding our reach and growing our top-of-funnel pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
Right now, we’re focused on UK-based small and medium accountancy practices. As Penfold grows, so will your opportunity to target new markets and industries. You’ll be expected to:
- Own outreach: make 50+ calls daily, send emails, and use LinkedIn to connect with decision-makers.
- Build and maintain a high-quality sales pipeline through proactive prospecting.
- Research potential leads and identify key decision-makers and influencers.
- Engage inbound leads and turn interest into meaningful conversations.
- Collaborate with sales and marketing to refine messaging and targeting.
- Update and track all activity in our CRM (HubSpot).
- Smash your targets and earn uncapped commission!
What We’re Looking For
Must-haves
- Proactive and driven: You have a self-starter attitude and a strong desire to achieve results.
- Comfortable with high-volume outreach: You’re ready to make a significant number of calls and connect with prospects daily.
- Sales-oriented mindset: You bring some experience in sales or a commercial role, with a keen focus on identifying and converting opportunities.
- Excellent communicator: You have exceptional interpersonal skills and a natural ability to build rapport and engage in meaningful conversations.
- Resilient and determined: You thrive under pressure, handle rejection constructively, and persistently pursue your goals.
Nice-to-haves
- B2B or partnerships experience: A background in sales or growth roles, particularly in these areas, would be a plus.
- Tech-savvy: Familiarity with CRM tools (e.g., HubSpot), phone systems (e.g., AirCall), and platforms like LinkedIn Sales Navigator is advantageous.
- Sales exposure: While not essential, 1-2 years of experience in a sales-related role is highly desirable.
Why Penfold?
- Uncapped commission: Based on the number of Sales Accepted Leads (SALs) you generate.
- Progression opportunities: We’re growing fast – and we want you to grow with us.
- A high-energy, supportive team that celebrates wins together.
Culture
We believe great teams are diverse teams. Whatever your background, identity, or experience – we want to hear from you. We’re building a high-performance culture and are looking for people who not only fit but add to it. We work hard, celebrate our successes, and lift each other up.
Benefits
- A competitive salary, we proactively review salaries to make sure you get what you deserve
- Meaningful share options, you’ll own a part of Penfold and share in our success
- 10% pension contribution each month that you don’t need to match (on top of your salary)
- Medical insurance, through Vitality
- Unlimited holiday, we’re interested in your output, not how many holidays you go on!
- Hybrid working, we like people to come into our office (so it would be great if you lived in the London area) at least a couple of days a week to collaborate, but we trust you to get your work done in whatever environment suits you
- Great office space, plenty of people come into our wonderful private office opposite Borough Underground station
- Free tea, coffee, soft drinks, and snacks
- Free company lunch every week (e.g., Borough Market, Mercato Metropolitano)
- MacBook and any WFH equipment you need
- Option to buy a bike tax-free, and spread the cost (using the cycle to work scheme)
- Learning and Professional Development – we conduct regular 360 feedback and focus on role progression that suits each individual. We support everyone with courses, events, and coaching to help everyone reach their goals
- Quarterly company socials, and regular meet-ups throughout the year too!
- Plus a host of other benefits – see here: Penfold Careers
Application Process
We’ll have a quick introductory call to properly introduce you to Penfold, find out more about your experience so far and career aspirations, and make sure you get a chance to ask any questions you might have. Then there will be a take-home task followed by an interview so we get a better feel for how you work. Finally, we’ll organise a session with one of our Co-Founders and a small group of people from around the business so you can learn more about our company culture.
We are 100% committed to building a diverse and representative team. Whatever your race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability - we want to hear from you. If you have questions about the role or the company or the interview process, please let us know - we’re happy to answer these anonymously if you feel more comfortable that way.
